Dear Parents
and New Second Graders,
Welcome to
the start of a new school year! In just
a month we will be starting a brand new school year! While I will be sad to see the summer go
away, I’m very excited to start a new school year and I pray that you are as
well!
Before I
tell you a little bit about the coming year, I want to make sure that you all
know about the Back To School BBQ following the Opening Service on Sunday, August 25th. This is a great time to bring in all your
supplies and drop them off in our classroom so that you don’t have to bring
them in on the first day. It’s also a
great opportunity to take a peek at our classroom and check out where everything
is!
About Me … For those of you who don’t know me,
this year will be my 15th year teaching second grade at Our
Shepherd! It’s hard for me to believe
that it’s been that long, but I have loved every minute! I live in Madison Heights with my 2 cats,
Lucy and Ethel. I grew up as an only
child, but God has blessed me with both a wonderful family and great friends
and I feel as though they are my siblings!
When I have time, I love to spend it with my niece and nephew who live
in Ft. Wayne, IN, reading or going to the movies!
Our Classroom … Our classroom will be a very busy
place this year. During our Reading time
each day we will be working with a plan called The Daily 5. I’m very excited to implement this technique
into our classroom as it will give me an opportunity to work with individual
students and small groups each day. This
plan also compliments our classroom environment structure of hands-on learning
activities, games and learning centers.
Communication … Communication is essential in our
classroom. There will be many ways that
I will be communicating with you throughout the year. Each week, I will be publishing a Newsletter
that contains important information for the following week like Memory Work,
Spelling Words and any upcoming events.
You can find this newsletter each week on Fast Direct. This is also a great opportunity to track
your child’s progress in specific subject areas. I will also be posting our Weekly Newsletter
on our classroom blog “The Second Grade Saga” at www.mazurosls.blogspot.com. This blog is also a great place to see things
that we are doing during the day and to see what we need to practice.
Classroom Behavior Plan … To keep a great learning environment
this school year we will be using a new classroom management system. Each child will start the day on “Ready to
Learn.” Throughout the day, I will be
looking for ways to encourage students and reward them for good behavior and
hard work. For each day that students
move above “ready to learn” they will receive a sticker on their incentive
chart. After students have received 10
stickers they will have a chance to draw a reward from the reward bucket.
Homework …
Please read the Homework Policy included with this letter. Students will have homework most every day
except Friday. Many times, pages that
have been completed will be sent home and will need to come back the next day. I do this for two reasons: First, it helps me
to stay organized. Second, it aids in teaching each child to be responsible
for their work.
Snack … Each afternoon, we will set aside
time for a snack. Please send in a
healthy snack such as fruit, goldfish crackers, pretzels, popcorn, etc. Snacks such as chips, cookies or candy will
not be permitted.
Should you
have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at mazurt@ourshepherd.net. I look forward to seeing you all at the Back
to School BBQ! Enjoy the rest of your
summer!
