First Week Down!

Well, we finished our first week back!  Good Job, Second Graders!  One thing I forgot is that we will be singing in church on Saturday, January 26th at the 6:00 service.  Students will be sitting up front together as a class.  Please also note that we will be singing again on Sunday, February 10th at Cross of Christ Lutheran.  Detail will be coming soon!

Social Studies Fair … Please see the important information about this year’s Social Studies Fair.  Students will be writing research reports for this event.

Science Test … We will be having a test over Chapter 9 on Wednesday of next week.  The review on Moodle will be helpful in reviewing for this test.

Prayer Friends … We chose new Prayer Friends this week.  We will be taking the time between now and our Valentine’s Party to let them know we are praying for them.

Class Color … Well, if you’ve checked out the information about Lutheran School’s Week for this school year, you may have noticed that Wednesday is class color day.  Our class chose the color black.  So, on that day, students may wear black clothing with their jeans, pants or skirts.

Classroom Auction Baskets … Information came home today about our School’s “Shepherd’s Circle Auction.”  Each class has been asked to come up with 2-3 theme baskets to auction off.  We decided to use our cookbooks for our theme.  Here’s where you can help.  I am looking for someone who would be willing to put these together so that they will look pretty and be ready by March 1st.  Our idea is to choose 3 recipes and supply the dry ingredients for those recipes.  If you can help in this way, please let me know!

School Lockdown Drill … Yesterday, our building practiced a Lockdown Drill.  We were fortunate enough to have Detective Hill from the Birmingham Police Department in our building to tell us how we were doing.  We did well overall, but I was saddened to see that many of the students in our class didn’t take it as seriously as a fire or tornado drill.  While the students were all in the bathroom, there was a lot of banging on the walls, giggling, and the toilet was flushed 3 different times.  It ended with one student’s glasses falling into the toilet.  While the last event may seem funny, it really wasn’t given the situation we were in.  Please take time this weekend to talk with your child about the seriousness of this drill.  Detective Hill said, “Three things to remember: Doors locked, lights off, and mouths closed.”  Thanks for your cooperation!
Memory Work due Thursday, January 17, 2013:
What is impossible with men is possible with God.  Luke 18:27

But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. Jeremiah 10:10

[John] said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

There will be no Spelling test next week!
