It Didn't Rain!!!!!

I am soooooo thankful that it didn't rain during our recesses today! I seem to use the long, expressive soooooooo way too much! I'm going to have to work on that:)! It was a humid day, but nice and cool for us here at school!

Here we go...

Successes: We enjoyed reading the story Julius today from our reading books! It was a great story about a girl who receives a pig as a pet from her granddaddy. Be sure to ask your child to tell you about it!

Struggles: We struggled with deeper level thinking questions. Here's an example: We are reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory for read aloud and I asked the children what kind of person Charlie was and they gave me answers like "a boy," "a poor boy" and things like that when I was looking for answers about his character and his "heart."

Here are a few ways to get the students thinking about more than just the surface: When reading books together or watching things on TV, relate the events taking place to events that have happened in their own lives. Talk about how they would feel if these things happened to them. This will help them to start "reading between the lines."

Homework: Memory Work is due tomorrow. Students also had Math 14B, Reading wksts. 25-28 (these should already be done since we did them in class), and Handwriting pg. 25-26. Don't forget that we will be taking a Social Studies test on Chapter 1. Remember that we will be taking the test "together." What I mean is that we will be reading the questions together, but answering them individually. I want the children to understand that they need to take their time in answering things & check their work.

Prayers: Prayers of thanks that Ashley and Jack were able to come back to school today. Jack asked though, that we would keep him in is prayers because his asthma is acting up. We asked to keep Kemp's grandparents safe from the California fires. We prayed for all people with colds and allergies, sicknesses & hurts. We asked God to heal Andrey's brother's arm quickly, and that Grace's Dad would have a good time in Tennessee and come home safely.

Whew! Lots of info today!! Have a blessed evening!
Miss Mazur
